Body, passion, position, lechery, promiscuity, profanity, naughtiness and intimacy, are at the center of Hanan Shlonsky’s new painting exhibition.

In an era where sex becomes a burden and courtship becomes disturbance, women are terrified and men frightened, censorship rules with terror and relationships become sterile and lustless, Shlonsky presents in his always defying way, his challenging voice. In the series Painting for Adults he presents in a graphic, exposed and stripped way, intensive colorful activities of singles, couples and groups.

The childish times we live in, according to Shlonsky, are represented in contemporary art in “‘Bad Painting”. The term, coined by Marcia Tucker during the nineteen seventies, defined the deliberately poor painting language employed by American figurative artists aiming to respond and create from within their childish soul to momentous events. The persistence of the trend in twenty-first century Israel, discards serious, mature discourse about painting, precision and reality.

Therefore, painting for adults is valid for the topic and technique he chose. Experience, maturity, patience, concentration and relaxation that characterize his unique ripe personality, enable him to punctuate in thousand shades of color and minuscule details, jubilant scenes of humans and their urges.
