בסדרת ציורי רכבות מציגה איוון הלמריך בצבעים עזים את התנועה, הנוף, זיכרונות-הילדות, הציפיה והדריכות שבמסע על הפסים.
רכבות הן מאורע משמח ומעורר השראה להלמריך. הן צבעוניות, זריזות, שועטות קדימה ברעש נעים, הן נוף מתחלף, הן זמן אינטימי עם ההורים, אוחזות בקסם שביציאה למסע לסבתה הגרה במרחק, מעין מפלצות ענק ססגוניות המשתרגות במרחב ומיטיבות למי שנפשו תמה. להלמריך, ילידת שבדיה, נחסכו הטראומות הארצישראליות מרכבות הנושאות, כמעט תמיד, דימוי שואתי בשחור לבן, רכבות מוות, רכבות משא חלודות או רכבות המבוששות להגיע.
המסע של הלמריך מתחיל מהקופות ומהתכונה שעל הרציף. שאון האנשים ובדידות היחיד, ההתרגשות מבואה והחשש מאיחורה של הרכבת. הלמריך המתבוננת, לוכדת סצנות במרחב התחנה וגם מתמקדת במבט ובצעד הגורלי של העלייה לקרון. במושב שליד החלון היא מתרשמת הן מהיושבים מולה והן מהנוף המדופדף במהירות מחוצה לו. סוג הרכבת, אורך המסלול, הבדלי התדירות, המקום, המרחק והטכנולוגיות השונות של הרכבת אינם משנים להלמריך. לכן, הכרמלית בחיפה, מסלול רכבת ישראל, האוסף במוזיאון הרכבות, הרציפים בחיפה ובתל אביב, המטרו באמסטרדם או קרון השינה ברכבת מסטוקהולם לכפר נידח בדרום שבדיה, זוכים לאותו יחס צבעוני וחם.
בצבעי שמן מכל סקלת הצבעים, על כרטיסי רכבת-ישראל בגודל 5 ס”מ, נייר A4 ובד, טווה הלמריך חוויה פואטית שבין הפיגורטיבי למופשט. בקומפוזיציה פתוחה ודינמית, האמנית מצד אחד מורחת את הצבע כדי לתאר תנועה, רוח ונוף ומנגד מאלפת אותו בקווים הדוקים כדי ליצור אמיתות ארכיטקטונית או כדי לדייק בפרט טכני נשגב. המתח בין הסגנונות מאפשר להלמריך לזקק את רשמיה ולשיר שיר הלל לרכבת שאצה רצה להרפתקה גדולה.

Yvonne Helmrich — Trains

Trains are a joyous, exhilarating event for Helmrich. They are colorful, nimble, charging forward with a pleasant noise, they are changing scenery; they are intimate time with the parents, grasping the magic of trips to a remote grandmother, gigantic colorful monsters entangling in the space, benefiting those with untainted spirits. Sweden born Helmrich, was spared the Eretz-Israeli traumas of trains carrying, almost always, black and white holocaust memories, death trains, rusty freight trains or trains failing to arrive.
Helmrich’s journey begins at the payment booths and the track hassle. The noise of people and loneliness of the individual, excitement from the arrival and fear of train delay. Helmrich, the observer, captures scenes in the station space and at the same time focuses on the gaze and the critical step of mounting the wagon. In the window seat she is impressed by those sitting across from her as well as the scenery rapidly paged outside. Train types, length of track, frequency, location, distance and various train technologies make no difference to Helmrich. Therefore, Haifa’s Carmelit, Israel’s train track, the collection at the train museum, Haifa and Tel Aviv platforms, Amsterdam’s metro or a vagon-li on the train from Stockholm to a desolate village in the south of Sweden, receive the same warm treatment.
In a broad palette of oil colors, on 5cm Israel-train tickets, A4 paper and canvas, Helmrich weaves a poetic experience on the spectrum between the figurative and abstract. In open, dynamic composition, she on one hand spreads the paint to describe, motion, wind and scenery, and on the other hand tames it in tight lines to deliver architectural authenticity or to be truthful in a sublime technical detail. The tension between the styles enables Helmrich to distill her impressions and sing an Ode to the train rushing towards a great adventure.
